| The opening reception of ‘Indiart 2007,London' was held on the 2 nd of October at the House of Lords and was attended by dignitaries and distinguished personalities from various fields , including The Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MBE MP, Minister for Culture, Creative Industries & Tourism. Artists, Mr. M. F. Husain and Mr. Sakti Burman were also present on the occasion. |
Mr. S.K. Modi FRSA , President, IIFA, said in his welcome speech on the 2 nd of October, “Today happens to be a special day – the birth anniversary of the apostle of humanity and peace, Mahatma Gandhi. On this ‘International Day of Non-Violence', it becomes all the more significant for us to focus on a common, universal language. And what better universal means of communication can there be - than art. |
Art is, indeed, a global language, where visual expression evokes raw emotions and is thus an effective medium of conveying the very important messages of peace and harmony. Powerful images of paintings can leave an ever-lasting impact on peoples' minds. Unlike words which are spoken, heard and sometimes forgotten, art on canvas stays forever and so does the message it conveys. |
We are truly proud to bring a glimpse of modern India in this collection of contemporary Indian art at this prestigious venue, the House of Lords. ” |
