An Exhibition of contemporary Indian art organized by the International Institute of Fine Arts (IIFA), India . at the Ueno Royal Museum , Tokyo 18-23 July 2007
 

The year 2007 marks the 50 th Anniversary of the Japan-India cultural exchange agreement. The year is being celebrated as the India–Japan Friendship Year, with special focus on cultural exchange. To mark this important year, the International Institute of Fine Arts (IIFA), India organized an exhibition of contemporary Indian art, “Indiart 2007, Tokyo”, at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, Japan, from the 18 th to the 23 rd of July 2007.

   
   

This art exhibition forms part of the official celebrations and events marking the India-Japan Friendship Year, being included in the calendar of events for the Festival of India in Japan . This event was supported by the Embassy of India in Japan , the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Mr. & Mrs. S.K. Modi along with Mr. Hisanaga Shimazu and Mrs. Takako Shimazu. Mrs. Shimazu is the younger sister of the Emperor of Japan. Also seen in the photograph is Mr. Paresh Maity, renowned Indian painter
 

This exhibition, curated by Mrs. Kalpana Shah, was the biggest exhibition of contemporary Indian art in the history between India and Japan . 120 paintings by 56 eminent Indian artists were displayed at the exhibition. The works were exhibited purely for the purpose of cultural exchange.

 
The Opening function of ‘Indiart 2007, Tokyo' was held on the 18 th of July at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo and was attended by dignitaries and distinguished personalities from various fields , including members of Japan's Royal family .
 
Mr. S.K. Modi FRSA , President, IIFA said, “We truly feel proud in organizing this landmark exhibition and, in turn, contribute towards the growing ties between India and Japan – two countries that have so much in common and so much to share.”
