IIFA Students Participation in Art Exhibitions-

THE month of February has been particularly engaging because of the participation of students from various streams in important art exhibitions such as:-

The works of two final year students from Painting Department- Ankita Gopal and Kalpna Chaudhary have been selected in the preliminary round of the State Art exhibition organized by State Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow, U.P.

Final year student- Abha Poonia and third year students- Amit aggarwal and Prachi Johri’s works also have been selected for the preliminary stage of North Zone Camlin Art Exhibition 2006.
The work of Jyoti Gulati, final year student in Painting department has also been selected for the forthcoming IVth Annual Uttaranchal Art Exhibition.

3 painting students participated in a workshop conducted by Dr. Nirmalendu Das, Professor, Graphics Department, Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, on print-making techniques. The workshop was held in Graphic Studio of Garhi Artists Village, New Delhi from 10th February to 16th February 2006.

Guest Lecture-

  • Apart from this workshop, Dr. Nirmalendu Das also visited the Institute of Fine Arts, Modinagar, NCR of Delhi on 15th of February to give a slide presentation on the works of contemporary Indian print makers.
 

Annual Sport News-

IIFA held its Annual Badminton Tournament on 27th & 28th of February 2006. The winners of this tournament are as follows:-

  • Men (Singles) title was won by Amit Aggarwal, Ist year.

  • Men (Doubles) title was won by Final year student, Vikas Verma and Manish Sharma.

  • Girls (Singles) title was won by final year student, Mansi Mittal.

  • Amongst the staff, Prof. K.S. Viswambhara and Mr. Pradeep Bose won the doubles title.

  • The Cricket Tounament was also held on the 9th of February 2006. This event was won by IInd year students.


     
Collaborative Programme of IIFA with LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore

IIFA students may soon have the golden opportunity of completing their final year in LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore as part of their Degree programme. This exchange programme will henceforth encourage the students to achieve a global perspective regarding their chosen field in Fine Arts.

For this collaboration, a top delegation team from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore visited IIFA on 30th of January 2006. The delegation included-

  a) Prof. Robert Ely(F.R.S.A.)- President & CEO
  b) Mr. Neil Maynard - Pro-Vice President(International)
  c) Mrs. Kirtida Mekani - Board Member

The delegation was accompanied by Mrs. Abha Modi, member, Advisory Board and Mrs. Nandini Malhotra. A brief meeting was initiated by .Mr S.K. Roy between the delegates and the Director- Prof. K.S. Viswambhara along with other faculty members of IIFA, the delegation took a tour of the campus. This visit then culminated in a talk on 'Creativity' by Prof. Ely.

IIFA Library receives Catalogues from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore

As a part of another collaboration, the IIFA Library is being enriched by an international grant of art exhibition catalogues of various individual artists held in the Earl Lu gallery, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore.

These include some student’s graphic-design and painting cards along with many important catalogues such as-

  a) Liu King and Ho Ho Ying, reconnecting selected writings on Singapore art and art criticism edited      by T.K. Sabapathy and Cheo-Cheo cheo Hiang.
  b) Compoundeyes, contemporary video art Franchisee, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore.
  c) Painting as process, re-evaluating Painting, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore.
  d) A wall drawing, site-specific work by Ye-Shufang, Earl lu Gallery, Singapore.
  e) Akas, an exhibition of drawing by Chandrasekaran S., Earl lu Gallery, Singapore.
  f) Yeo Hwee Bin, Pioneer Sculptor, Earl lu gallery, Lasalle-Sia College of the Arts, Singapore.

 

 

Annual Tour

An Annual Tour for the students of IIFA, Modinagar, NCR of Delhi had been conducted to the Southern most part of India, Tamil Nadu. The tour included places of interest such as Chennai- Cholamandal-artist’s village- Mahabalipuram- Kanchipuram- Pondicherry- Tiruchirappalli- Madurai and Kanyakumari etc.

This 12 days tour, which started from Delhi on 12th of January, ended on 23rd of the very same month. As part of the itinerary, the tour covered various museums along with some of the most ancient and medieval sites with splendid architectures and sculptures. These magnificent sites propagate the Dravidian culture forwarded over 5000 years ago such as world famous Brihideshwar and Meenakshi Temple.

A glimpse of the French culture came through the visit to Pondicherry with its exquisite villas, majestic monuments and embellished Churches that reflect French architect.

The students also ventured into many of the renowned beaches such as Kanyakumari and Kovalam.

The tour thus succeeded in presenting a balance of entertainment with the value of study.

 


Student/ Alumni Achievements In The Academic Year 2005-06

I.
(a)
Out of 62 students of final year, the maiden batch of B.F.A. of 2004-05 academic year- 7 students secured admission to M.F.A. post-graduate studies at prestigious institutions like Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda; College of Art, Chandigarh; Banasthali Vidyapeeth University.
    (b) Mr. Samresh Choudhary from Applied Art section has joined the prestigious ‘Bajaj Capital', New Delhi, as Graphic Designer.
    (c) One student of Textile Design Shri. Arindam Dey, secured admission for post-graduation Diploma studies abroad.
    (d) 8 students of Fashion Design, 8 students of Textile Design, 10 students of Applied Art and 3 students of Painting secured jobs at various export houses and industries at Faridabad, Noida and Delhi.
    (e) 1 student of Textile Design and 2 students of Fashion Design have secured teaching job.
    (f) Mr. Sunil Rawat from Painting section has joined special advanced course in Shoe Design at Footwear Design & Development Institute, Noida.
    (G) One Painting student Mr. Vishu Khanna, secured job in the Animation Design department as a drawing artist of Delhi University.
  II.   Present 8 final year Applied Art students have secured part-time job in various Ad. Agencies in and around Delhi.

Besides, present final year Applied Art student Mr. Sushant Jain was selected to represent IIFA to participate in the 14-days prestigious ‘Asian Art Camp 2005', an International student art camp organized by Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, at Singapore. The camp was held in the Lasalle-Sia College Campus and around island villages from 14th November 2005 to 27th November 2005.

This participation of our student is a very significant note to IIFA's educational development, which has taken IIFA into International map of art education.

  III.   Our Ist year B.F.A. (Foundation) student Prabhjot Singh, took part in the State level Fashion Show held at Kanpur in Zonal semifinal. He was further selected to participate in the International Fashion Show held at Amritsar, Punjab, organized by Akal Punakifouj, International Society, Amritsar, Punjab.
  III.   Ms. Manju Chauhan, IIIrd year Painting student, has been awarded with a ‘gold plated' medal, for her painting in the ‘Varnika 05'(Manav Sanket Academy) National College Painting Competition, organized by Manav Sanket Academy, Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh).
  IV.   Mr. Vishu Khanna, who passed out in final B.F.A. (Painting) in April 2005, was awarded a certificate for ‘Best selected Painting in water colour in the Annual International water colour Exhibition, held by Royal water colour Society, London, U.K., held in March 2005.
  V.   IIFA and Nehru Painting Group of Ghaziabad had successfully organized ‘On the Spot Painting Competition' for school and college level students in the month of October 2005. As many as 800 students participated in the competition held in the open air IIFA garden. Mr. Vikas Ahlawat, IIIrd year Applied Art student from IIFA won a prize for his work.
  BEYOND ACADEMICS…….
  VII.   IIFA's Fashion Design and Textile Design Departments had organized a special students study tour to Rajasthan in the month of November 2005 for the purpose of ‘Craft & Design Survey' in and around Jaipur.


 

GUEST FACULTY FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2005-06

IIFA had the privilege of having the presence of some of the eminent and experienced Artists/ Graphic Designers/ Textile Technologists who were invited for Guest Lectures and to conduct Workshops/ demonstrations/ Slide-shows during the current academic year-

  1. Mr. Zahoor Zargar - Graphic Designer, Jamia Milia University, New Delhi.
  2. Mr. Naresh Verma - Graphic Designer, Jamia Milia University, New Delhi.
  3. Mr. Siddharth Sen - Graphic Designer, Jamia Milia University, New Delhi.
  4. Mr. R.P. Sharma - Textile Technologist, NITRA, Ghaziabad.
  5. Mr. K.P. Soman - A senior Sculptor from New Delhi.
  6. Dr. Bhawani S. Sharma- A senior Artist and Muralist from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  7. Mr. Abhimanyu V.G. - Artist & Head of the Department from College of Art, New Delhi.
  8. Mr. Tyeb Mehta, renowned artist of India, who was recently felicitated with Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education, will be creating a D.V.D. library for IIFA in near future which would immensely benefit students and teachers alike providing rich information on visual art.

Also, we are proud to inform that well known Artists/ Designers/ Photographer like Ms. Anjolie Ela Menon, Ms. Arpana Caur, Dr. Alka Pandey, Prof. Shibkar Choudhary from Santiniketan, Mr. B.K. Sharma, Mr. Rohit Kumar, Ms. Amba Sanyal and Mr. Malkait Singh will be visiting IIFA in January and February 2006 as a part of Guest Lecture programme.

 

Distinguished Foreign Dignitaries/Educationalists Visit to IIFA

  • Mr. Neil Maynard, Pro-Vice President and Ms. Charis Yeo, International Development Manager of highly reputed LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore, visited IIFA in October 2005 and appraised the quality progress done by the Institute within short span of it’s existence.

  • Besides Memorandum of Understanding agreement, for number of exchange programmes, IIFA and LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore, are contemplating to introduce some new yielding professional courses of common curriculum shortly.


     

Winter Collection of Fashion & Textile Design Department

Students of Fashion and Textile Design Department presented their Winter Collection including autumn-winter and inspiration designer outfits. This event was organized on 23rd December 2005 at IIFA, Modinagar, NCR of Delhi.

For this event, Ms. Saumya Srivastava, S.D.M., NCR of Delhi, was invited as Chief Guest and to further grace this event, Mr. Umed Singh, C.O. City, Modinagar, NCR of Delhi was invited as the Guest of Honour. Mrs. Abha Modi, President, IIFA, too, was present to encourage the moral of students of both Textile and Fashion Design Department.

This work included Indian, Indo-Western, fusion, and inspiration from monuments, season and trends. Students of Applied Art had given full cooperation in back stage design and publicity.
